Spiaggia di Brancaleone

The sandy coastline of this site has recently been identified as one of the major nesting areas for Loggerhead turtles in Italy. The site extends along the seashore of the Ionian side of the province of Reggio Calabria. It includes a stretch of beach, averaging 35 meters in width. Moreover, sandy reliefs which are represented by dunes can be found parallel to the coast. The plant landscape is typically coastal, with species resistant to both wind and saltwater which is followed by shrub formations near the beach. The marine area nearby shows a small Posidonia oceanica meadow, submerged cliffs and sandbanks with weak and continuos coverage of marine water.
