Secche di Torre Flavia

The Torre Flavia Shoals, located on the north of Ladispoli, are characterized by the presence of rocky seabeds. In this area, Posidonia oceanica, which is a marine seagrass that builds dense underwater carpets, is not so present; nevertheless, it represents a significant habitat for numerous species of invertebrates, vertebrates, and fish. The reduced occurrence of this habitat within the Torre Flavia Shoals may be attributed to environmental factors such as the influence of marine currents and strong wave action, or anthropogenic factors including pollution and excessive fishing.
Conversely, the coralligenous habitat, which is defined by the presence of corals and calcareous algae thriving on rocky substrates, occupies a more extensive surface area within the Torre Flavia Shoals.
