Fondali Punta Mesco – Rio Maggiore

The site is located among the municipalities of Riomaggiore, Vernazza, Mountrosso al Mare, and Levanto in the province of La Spezia. This area is highly important for its variety of microhabitats and the good state of conservation of biocenoses, including Posidonia meadows. The site hosts species at risk due to intensive harvesting, including sponges, the spiny oysters and Pinna nobilis, which is the largest bivalve in the Mediterranean.
