Fondali Foce del Fiume Irminio

The site is located along the sandy coastline between Marina di Ragusa and Donnalucata which is characterized by a magnificent dune and backshore system. The marine area in front of the mouth hosts a Posidonia oceanica meadow which is well-structured in both the high and sub-layers, extending to Donnalucata. Therefore, the area in front of the river mouth is only slightly affected by pollutants from nearby areas. Sporadically, there are also scattered patches of Cymodocea nodosa. The area should be preserved to prevent any negative impact on the significant terrestrial area.
