The site is located along the coastal strip of the southern Ionian Sea. It features a promontory at 116 meters above sea level that extends towards the sea and a flat area where the Spartivento river mouth is located. The vegetative landscape of the emerged area of the site is characterized by xerophilous shrub vegetation and substeppe grasslands. There is a continuous Posidonia oceanica meadow on rocks and partially on sand; overall, it appears to be in good condition. The beaches within the site constitute a nesting area for Loggerhead turtles, a priority species under the Habitat Directive.
