Project actions

The actions of LIFE A-MAR NATURA 2000 are designed to bring people closer to the sea and to Marine Natura 2000 Sites, making their environmental, social, and economic value clearer. Through communication, direct engagement, training, and cooperation at the European level, the project promotes a more aware and participatory management of the Marine Natura 2000 Network in the Mediterranean.

A.1 Communication Plan
The project is based on a structured and inclusive communication plan, designed to reach diverse audiences and highlight the role of marine protected areas within the European ecological Natura 2000 Network in the Mediterranean.
In this initial phase, the focus is on defining an ad hoc communication strategy to address different target groups—citizens, sea users, tourism operators, managing authorities, and local decision-makers—in order to raise awareness of the existence and benefits of these sites, increase environmental awareness, and stimulate active participation in their protection.
Through stakeholder engagement and coordination with other European projects, communication becomes a key tool for building a shared and lasting vision.
A.2 Initial Activities
At the same time, LIFE A-MAR NATURA 2000 includes moments of internal exchange and training among partners, with the aim of building a common knowledge base on the governance of Marine Natura 2000 Sites and on active stakeholder participation.
These activities allow partners to share approaches, language, and objectives, ensuring effective coordination and a shared vision that guides all subsequent project actions.
B.1 Awareness-raising and Engagement Campaign for the Promotion of Marine Natura 2000 Sites
This action represents the core of the project and brings it directly to coastal areas and the sea. A travelling campaign, mainly carried out by sailing boat, crosses several Marine Natura 2000 Sites in Italy and Spain, involving citizens, tourists, recreational boaters, and local operators.
Port events, guided tours, participatory meetings, and dedicated sailing activities aimed at promoting marine protected areas help communicate, in a direct and engaging way, the importance of marine conservation and the value of the Natura 2000 Network.
B.2 Communication and Citizen Science
The project uses digital and participatory tools to make Marine Natura 2000 Sites easily accessible and understandable to everyone. The website, social media (Facebook and Instagram), multimedia content, and a dedicated app, AMAR SEA LIFE [download Android] [download iOS], allow users to explore the sites, learn about good practices, and adopt more sustainable behaviours.
A central element is citizen science: citizens and sea users are involved in collecting observations on species, habitats, and environmental pressures, actively contributing to the knowledge and protection of Marine Natura 2000 Sites, with the support of experts and researchers.
C.1 Monitoring of Project Results
To ensure the effectiveness of the actions, the project includes continuous monitoring of the results achieved. This action evaluates both the impact of communication and engagement on the public and the environmental effects of the activities, making it possible to measure progress, improve strategies, and enhance the results obtained.
D.1 Project Dissemination
The results and good practices developed by LIFE A-MAR NATURA 2000 are shared with a wide audience through various dissemination tools. The project website, informational materials, public events, and workshops help make the acquired knowledge accessible and promote a culture of marine protection linked to the Natura 2000 Network.
D.2 Networking and Synergies with Other Projects
The project promotes ongoing dialogue with other European and international initiatives working in the field of marine conservation. Through the exchange of experiences and good practices with LIFE, Interreg, and other thematic networks, LIFE A-MAR NATURA 2000 contributes to strengthening European Union policies and actions in favour of the sea and biodiversity.
E.1 Project Management
Careful and coordinated management accompanies all phases of the project. Project management ensures the correct progress of activities, coordination among partners, and achievement of objectives, guaranteeing coherence, quality, and long-term impact.
