Life A-MAR Natura2000, there is time until April 15th to participate in the Good Practices Competition

Yesterday, 25 March, an informative meeting on the call took place with several cooperatives of artisanal fishing, sustainable tourism and environmental education. The competition is aimed at the marine and coastal sites of the ReteNatura2000, in Italy and Spain

There is time until April 15 to register and participate to the second edition of the “Good Practices for Natura200 Marine Sites” Contest. The call for entries was presented by Federparchi during an online meeting held on March 25th and attended by some 20 people from cooperatives engaged in artisanal fishing, sustainable tourism and environmental education activities: the three categories targeted by the Contest.

The meeting was well attended and constructive, it was an opportunity to explain terms and modalities of the Contest and to illustrate the LIFE A-MAR NATURA2000 project, whose goal is to raise awareness and enhance the marine sites of the European network dedicated to protected natural areas.

The main objective of the 4-years project, which covers marine sites of the Mediterranean NATURA2000 Network in Italy (288) and Spain (272), is simple: to reduce impacts on sites by addressing approach and behaviour of stakeholders (fishermen, divers, tour operators, boaters, organizations) and people (residents, tourists, fishermen, boaters, divers, etc.).

The competition is aimed at all those associations, fishing, tourism and environmental education businesses that have developed virtuous projects and initiatives in the field of sustainable management of fishery resources, sustainable tourism and environmental education. The goal is to identify, enhance and disseminate management models that can inspire other communities to follow more environmentally friendly paths.

All stakeholders operating in Natura 2000 sites can participate; special attention will be given to stakeholders operating in sites touched by the sailing campaign of the LIFE A-MAR NATURA2000 project, another project activity that had, last year in Italy, the merit of bringing citizens and institutions closer to the beauty and importance of the European network of marine protected areas. These very important territories, often fragile and threatened, need innovative and participatory solutions to ensure their long-term conservation.

Details of the competition can be found at the Link (to the previous news item).
