LIFE A-MAR NATURA2000 moves forward with its After LIFE Plan

A long-term strategy to build on the project’s achievements and strengthen the protection of Natura 2000 marine sites

Although the LIFE A-MAR NATURA2000 project has officially come to an end, its work will continue through the implementation of the After LIFE Plan. This strategic document outlines how the project’s results, tools and activities will be maintained, promoted and further developed during the 2026–2031 period.

Prepared by Federparchi – Europarc Italia, the project coordinator, together with Fundación Biodiversidad, Lipu ODV and Triton Research S.r.l., the Plan identifies the actions that will ensure the long-term impact of the project beyond its EU funding.

The strategy focuses on increasing awareness of Natura 2000 marine sites, supporting environmental education, engaging local communities and stakeholders, and encouraging more sustainable and responsible behaviour among sea users.

The After LIFE Plan also promotes the continued use of the project’s main outputs, including the project website, the A-MAR Sea Life mobile app, the documentary, educational materials, infographics, videos, citizen science initiatives and training resources for site managers, professionals and local stakeholders.

Among the future communication activities, Federparchi will organise a new sailing awareness campaign in collaboration with the Italian Naval League, involving at least four Italian Marine Protected Areas to promote Natura 2000 marine sites, protected habitats and species, and the results achieved by LIFE A-MAR NATURA2000.

The document also includes an Exploitation Plan aimed at encouraging the transfer and reuse of the project’s tools, methodologies and communication resources in other conservation initiatives and protected areas.

By ensuring that the project’s experience, partnerships and resources remain available after its completion, the After LIFE Plan contributes to strengthening long-term cooperation and supporting the protection of Europe’s valuable marine biodiversity.

LIFE A-MAR NATURA2000 therefore continues its mission, demonstrating that lasting conservation depends on knowledge, collaboration and active participation.
