LIFE A-MAR Natura 2000 (LIFE20 GIE/IT/001352 “Knowing Natura 2000 Marine Sites to Love and Protect Them”) is an Italian-Spanish project funded by the European Union’s LIFE Program, created to promote the marine areas of the Natura 2000 network. The Natura 2000 network is the “ecological network” established thirty years ago by the European Union, which virtually connects the most important sites from the perspective of habitat and species conservation, with the aim of raising public awareness of them, highlighting their unique natural features, raising awareness of their fragility, and encouraging more respectful and sustainable behavior. The project concluded in 2026 and carried out communication and information initiatives that focused primarily on the Mediterranean Natura 2000 Marine Sites in Italy (288) and Spain (272), involving more than 9 million marine users, including fishermen, divers, operators of lodging, tourism, and nautical activities, tour operators, tour guides, recreational boaters, conservation and educational associations, local authorities, residents, tourists, and visitors. The project is coordinated by Federparchi, with Triton Research, LIPU, and Fundación Biodiversidad serving as active partners. Additionally, three national parks participate as co-funders: the Asinara National Park, the Cinque Terre National Park, and the Tuscan Archipelago National Park.
