A mixed zone basically consists of an extensive coastal and marine area from the south of Punta de Toix. This area is home to extensive Posidonia oceanica meadows, which are generally well-preserved. Furthermore, within the marine environment, the region encompasses two minor islands: l’Olla, located off the coast of Altea, and the renowned Illot de Benidorm. Regarding the terrestrial environment, the area encompasses Serra Gelada de Benidorm, a stunning coastal relief with cliffs over 400m high. It is also home to pockets of vegetation that hold exceptional value. The unique fossil dune and its distinctive vegetation are noteworthy. Furthermore, Sierra has several botanical endemisms in common with the neighbouring Penyal d’Ifac. Finally, it is worth highlighting the significance of Illot de Benidorm as a nesting site for various species of seabirds.
