The area is a marshy meadow separated from the sea by a gravel ridge. It is a unique example of a wetland in an advanced state of natural siltation. There are peat farms that are under control, and their excavation produces brackish ponds. The region comprises a marine zone. The uniqueness of the coastal plain allows for a significant variety of fresh and brackish water habitats, as well as diverse dune communities. These habitats provide shelter for various endemic or endangered plant species. The fauna of the area comprises of endemic fish populations such as Valencia hispanica and Aphanius iberus, as well as nesting populations of various bird species. The nesting populations of Marsh Harrier, Montagu’s Harrier, Reed Warbler, and Aquatic Warbler are particularly noteworthy.
