A marine area located in the northwest of the island of Mallorca, which includes the coastal waters, the island of Dragonera and the islets of Malgrats and Conills, as well as other smaller islands such as Pantaleu and El Toro. Although there are some beaches and coves, the coastline is indented and dominated by low cliffs. In the more sheltered and shallow areas, you can find Posidonia meadows (Posidonia oceanica). One example is the channel between Dragonera and Mallorca. This is a marine area surrounding one of the largest breeding populations of Balearic Shearwater (Puffinus mauretanicus) in the world (around 25%), distributed in three nuclei in the northwest of Mallorca: Sa Cella, Dragonera and Malgrats-Conills. The area also has important colonies of Scopoli’s Shearwater (Calonectris diomedea) and Audouin’s Gull (Ichthyaetus audouinii). In the Balearic context, it is also an important feeding ground for the Scopoli’s Shearwater.
