Espacio marino de l’Empordà

A marine area that runs alongside the coast, stretching from the French border to Palamós town. The region comprises two significant bays, Roses and Pals, and encircles the Medes Islands as well as the capes of Creus and Begur. The Mediterranean context is relatively productive, mainly due to the influence of currents and contributions from various rivers. The Iberian Mediterranean is one of the primary areas where small pelagic fish, particularly anchovy, are concentrated. Most coastal areas contain well-preserved Posidonia communities, and significant extensions of coralligenous communities can be found on rocky bottoms. This ecosystem serves as a refuge, spawning, and recruitment area for many fish species.
