Espacio marino de la Marina Alta

Maritime area in the Autonomous Community of Valencia. The limits of this marine protected area extend from l’Espanyol point in the north to Cap d’Or in the south. This marine area is protected and forms part of the Natura 2000 Network due to the presence of Sites of Community Importance that hold great ecological value. The marine area has been declared a Site of Community Interest due to its various habitats, including sandbanks in shallow water areas, extensive meadows of marine phanerogams (including the priority habitat of Posidonia meadows), reefs that are home to a diverse range of algae species and associated fauna of great conservation interest, and numerous submerged and semi-submerged marine caves. Two of these caves, Cova del Llop Marí and Cova del Moraig, are included in the catalogue of Caves of the Autonomous Community of Valencia.
