Cabo de Gata-Níjar

Located in the southeast of Almería Province, it is an area of volcanic origin with a strong personality. Annual rainfall is minimal, so there are no permanent surface water resources. The area presents a great contrast in landscape and ecological importance. It is home to a great diversity and unique flora and fauna. This results from the contrasts between the marine, coastal and terrestrial environments. We can find species of hawthorn, birds that are associated with the steppe formations and oceanic Posidonia in the marine environment. It is also an area that presents human intervention models working harmoniously with the environment. Examples include the salting process and artisanal fishing.
