The marine area encompassing the Bay of Almería, from Cabo de Gata to the small town of Balerma, west of Punta Entinas-Sabinar, has generally smooth underwater terrain, except for Seco de los Olivos, a rocky seamount known for its high species diversity. The Alboran Sea has the highest concentrations of small pelagic fish, which live in the water column. Due to its richness, this area is also crucial for cetaceans in the Iberian Mediterranean.
