The marine area includes the whole of the space between a line drawn from the Cape of Formentor to the Cape of Farrutx and the coast to the west of that line. It has a shallow bottom. It forms part of the basin that connects Mallorca and Menorca. The Posidonia beds are very extensive. They are in different states of conservation depending on their location in relation to ports and anchorages. The waters of these two coves are an important feeding ground for the Balearic shearwater and other priority seabirds.
