Between Cala Portals Vells and Cap de Cala Figuera, there is a large marine area. Posidonia meadows are the most prominent marine habitat in this area. Posidonia oceanica extends from the shore to a depth of 50 metres. In some areas, it forms a continuous meadow. There are also reefs. Here, we can find different types of algae and invertebrates. As for the protected birds that inhabit or use this marine area, the European Shag (Gulosus aristotelis) is considered vulnerable in the Spanish catalogue of endangered species. Unregulated recreational use, especially by boats, and forest fires are the main threats to the area.
