The site stretches along the southern Ionian coast on the western side of the mouth of the Fiumara di Melito. The landscape has been heavily altered by the presence of residential buildings and intense bathing activity. In this area, the presence of small rocky promontories interrupts the lateral continuity of the beach: the action of wave motion and currents, combined with the significant contributions of detrital material from the streams, creates conditions of strong accumulation of sands and conglomerates along the coast. The site preserves a stretch of beach with the presence of mobile dune which are covered by psammophilous vegetation. It is a recent nesting site for the Loggerhead turtle.
