The site is one of the few sandy coastal areas on the Calabrian Ionian coast where the complex of coastal dune vegetation is still preserved. Although this complex is highly degraded, it includes many elements which are typical of the psammophilous series. The consolidation of the older dunes (grey dunes) is due to the cover of communities of mosses and lichens. On these substrates, the site hosts communities characterized by the presence of Ephedra distachya. The site has reported the presence of the sicklefruit hypecoum (Hypecoum imberbe, vulnerable VU), which needs confirmation. Recent nesting of the Loggerhead turtle has been reported.
