The Pontines islands are five islands which make up an archipelago of volcanic origin: The Pontines are affected by marine erosion which causes the progressive retreat of the cliffs. The insular environments are of particular relevance due to the presence of nesting seabirds, including Cory’s shearwater, Manx shearwater and the European shag. Furthermore, the site stands out for the reproduction and migration of numerous species of fishes and cetaceans. Dolphins and sea turtles are a few example.
