The site is located in the municipalities of San Remo, Ospedaletti and Bordighera in the province of Imperia. It is divided into four sub-sites: the largest one, which is situated in front of the town of San Remo, shows various signs of degradation and erosion, including the presence of the invasive exotic alga Caulerpa taxifolia and areas of dead matte. The seabed of the site is primarily sandy with few rocky outcrops. The Posidonia meadow in San Remo is highly irregular, with formations on rocks and extensive areas of Cymodocea and dead matte covered with photophilic algae. In front of Ospedaletti, there is a significant reduction in the Posidonia meadow.
