The site, in the municipality of Finale Ligure in the province of Savona, is characterized by stretches of Posidonia meadows, surrounded by Cymodocea which are replaced by areas of ‘dead matte’ on a sandy seabed. In the past, the seabed was probably dominated by a larger Posidonia meadow. The imposing cliff formations and the beach-rock formations, consisting of fossilized beaches undergoing a natural lithification process, are here of particular interest; these formations are located very close to the shoreline.
