Calanchi di Palizzi Marina

Calanchi area colonized by thermoxerophilic vegetation. The sandy coastline of this site has recently been identified as one of the largest Italian nesting areas for loggerhead turtles: the marine area closes to the site has been included as a potential mating area for the species, as well as a mandatory passage to reach nesting areas. There are also patches and clumps of Posidonia oceanica which is an important habitat for many marine species.
