Seco de los Olivos is an underwater volcanic uplift. There are several rocky outcrops around it. It is an area of great richness and diversity of ecosystems. This is the result of its rugged topography. These include algal communities and white corals colonising the seafloor. There is also an abundance and diversity of pelagic species (those that live in the water column). These include cetaceans, sea turtles, and various tuna and tuna-like species.
